The other day, I was talking to a friend who has taken many dance classes with me and who is such a great support and enthusiast of my new path.
She mentioned that she knew that I was running some workshops in the fall. Excellent, I thought. Email newsletters DO work! And then she said, “What actually HAPPENS at one of these workshops?”.
Hmmm. Well, I thought, if someone needs to ask me, then I need to do a better job of explaining it.
When I used to teach “Hip Hop”, or “Learn the Thriller dance” (yes, I know the whole dance!), or “Pussycat Dolls”, it was really clear WHAT would be taught. And it was easy to imagine what would happen in the class.
But now that I am talking about things like love your nature and love your body and express yourself and feel authentically awesome, that is much harder to visualize. (As in, do we get naked/crazy/sing Kumbaya or use hand mirrors?!)
I realized that I wasn’t doing as much as I could to explain a workshop and entice you to join me. That perhaps the terms and words that I now hold dear (I would have rolled my eyes at visualizations in a previous life) were like a private joke. Unless you “were THERE”, you wouldn’t get it.
I am still finding the perfect words to describe what happens at the workshop.
I want to talk about the power of visualization without sounding totally flaky.
I want to talk about accessing your sexualilty without making anyone feel afraid or nervous about having to do something they are not comfortable with.
I want to talk about getting into your body and feeling at home and at peace there without making that sound meaningless and trivial.
I want to talk about feeling so good about being YOU.
So, I have a big job to do. I’m up to it!
So, let me do my best to explain what happens at one of these workshops. Because I want you to come to one. I want you to try it. I want you to see if it does anything for you. If it doesn’t, no harm done. If it lets a little light in somewhere, you will have opened that door forever.
First of all, the studio that these workshops are held in is a really lovely spot that has a very relaxing and peaceful vibe to it. There are no mirrors and the light we use is mostly candlelight. Everyone is wearing just comfortable clothes that they can move around in. Workout clothes or yoga clothes or just really stretchy and snuggly clothes.
Everyone will start on a mat and we’ll start with just closing our eyes and breathing. We’ll work on forgetting about the outside world and it’s distractions. The warm-up is all about getting out of our heads (which means I want us all to stop thinking about what groceries we need to get for dinner or when our parking meter runs out) and into our bodies (when we start to realize that a certain move feels really really good). The moves will be a combination of stretches, yoga moves and poses. They are all designed to either relax you, stretch you or to put your body in a position that feels feminine, powerful and delicious. You will not be asked to do the splits, twerk or accomplish advanced yoga headstands. I will give you the moves and you will find the way that YOUR body moves in them.
After the warm-up, we’ll start to put together a sequence of moves (that will seem similar to yoga and also include dance moves) that will create a routine. There will be some moves we do standing, some moves we do on the floor and some moves we do on the wall. There will always be ways you can modify the moves for your body, flexibility, an injury, etc. The point of the moves is to glorify you, not to hurt or stress you.
At some points, I’ll lead you through visualization exercises which is like being given permission to use your imagination to create your perfect life. I could ask you to imagine how exactly you want to feel as a woman. Or to imagine a perfect sensual experience. Or to really clarify how you want to feel right then, during the workshop.
So we’ll be doing a combination of stretches, poses, dance moves, visualization exercises, dance breaks (which is taking a break….with dance) and other fun stuff. We’ll laugh, we’ll cry, we’ll have revolutionary moments.
At the end of the workshop, you will have learned a short routine, feel stretched out and relaxed and hopefully had an introduction (or re-introduction) to the beautiful, powerful, worthy and exciting women you are.
Here’s what my intentions are;
1) For you to feel that there is no way to do the moves wrong, no way to fail or to not “do it well”. I want you to feel that you have everything you need already to have an awesome time and to feel perfectly perfect.
1) For you to spend 2 hours with yourself as a juicy, vibrant, wild and divine woman. To forget the expectations of a husband, a partner, a job, a house or a family. I want you to forget about the responsibilities you feel towards other people and other tasks. I want you to forget about how you are single, depleted, exhausted and uninspired and instead feel uplifted, gorgeous, worthy and beautiful.
2) For you to have FUN. Not just laughs but also real in-the-moment fun.
3) For you to have spent the money and the time and the organizing to prioritize yourself and what you want in your life.
4) For you to meet other women who want what you want. More.
